I thought it was a little girl jumping lol.

Decision of Next Os

I was Nobara user, then I am using Fedora right now. I want to use things like Hyprland etc. and ya know, Its damn cool to say I am using arch btw. So I've decided to use Arch Linux. But everyone says its always breaking and gives problems. That's because of users, not OS.. right? I love to deal with problems but I don't want to...

@eruchitanda@lemmy.world avatar

Like I said in the post on c/archlinux, I had more problems on 'user-friendly' distros, than I had on Arch.

Take something user-friendly, like Linux Mint, or Fedora.

I'd recommend against it, but if you'd *really* want to try something Arch-based, you can try EndeavourOS.

    If you have NetworkManager installed (you should have), you can use nmtui, TUI tool.

    TUI is Terminal User Interface, and IMO very user-friendly.

    In Pop!_OS, you have the Pop!_Shop, and they added their own repos for software aren't included in Ubuntu's repo or exist mainly as Snap packages; they also included Flathub.

    Under the app name you want to install, you'll have a little drop-down box with option to choose (if there's more than one option) where to download the package from.

    Use && to use multiple commands one after the other, don't use ;.

    eruchitanda ,
    @eruchitanda@lemmy.world avatar

    - && means execute if the command before ended successfully

    - || means execute if the commnad before failed

    - ; just means execute the command - no matter if succeeded or failed

    It does work with Redirector.

    - Settings - About <browser-name> - *tap on logo 3(?) times* - Custom Add-on Collection - *add your own collection*.

    @eruchitanda@lemmy.world avatar

    You could also add Iceraven's collection.

    - Collection Owner (User ID) - 16201230

    - Collection name - What-I-want-on-Fenix

    Last time I checked, it worked on all Firefox 'spins', *except* stable; it also works on Mull and Fennec.

    Dear @firefox : Please stop saving images as webp when I drag them out of the browser. Forever stop that. Even if they are webp originally, just give me a setting to auto-convert them to JPEG. When I get a webp file the first thing I have to do is convert it manually if I'm going to do anything with it.

    Isn't ImageMagick available on Windows too?

    Honesty? Nowadays Linux is just easier for me.

    Sometimes you forget that a lot of tools you are use to have in Linux don't even exist on Windows (like watch and cut). On Windows there are some problems you don't even have to deal with on Unix-like systems.

    You could also do Alt+D/Ctrl+L to jump to url bar, and go to the 'list all tabs' arrow icon and select the tab there.

    What is a distro with updates of Arch but dependencies of Fedora?

    I am currently using EndeavourOS, but am annoyed by the constant daily updates of 1GB and pacman not installing important dependencies automatically (ex: spell checker for document editor). I like the way Fedora works: you update whenever, important dependencies are downloaded automatically, and packages are recent-ish, but I...

    Do

    sudo pacman -S --needed <package-name>

    instead.

    Hey 👋 dear Linux Community,

    I'm still kinda new to Linux (started using this year 😅) I already made it to my main OS, even if I still missing some things which I used on Windows, anyway. What I wanted to ask you guys, what recommendations do you have for Linux Mint (Cinnamon)? In terms of security, optimization, (a way to make the UI looking modern ;-;) and privacy? I would be very interested in what you do guys to optimize your Linux setup :) I'm pretty technical, so there is nothing which could overwhelm me (probaly).

    Thx! 🤍

    @linux

    Security is somewhat debatable, but privacy-wise, nothing beats open-source operating systems (Linux/BSD/AOSP).

    You can use FFUpdater to install Firefox.

    If I were you, I would install Mull instead. And if you need another browser, Fennec, or Chromium-based browser - Cromite from Obtainium.

    eruchitanda ,
    @eruchitanda@lemmy.world avatar

    Looks like you technically can, but it's not really worth it.

    TL;DW: it isn't really usable.

    +1 for Lenovo Legion/HP Omen.

    In this order, IMO.

    I’d go for Linux Mint/Fedora Linux.

    Another thing, I would’ve play with it first on a VM, like VirtualBox.

    I wouldn’t immediately wipe Windows if I were you. I’d do dualboot with Windows.

    Then, when you’re ready, stay with dualboot system or go full neckbeard /j

    I like the vibe of 4 and 6.

    Then 5, 2, 1, 3, that have ‘professional’(?) look.

    Windows update that ruined 3 months of work.

    Wanted to share the libredirect Firefox plugin, for abandoning Youtube. ( libredirect.github.io )

    This is a plugin I found recently and really enjoy. It gives you the opportunity to redirect several webpages to alternatives. For example Youtube to FreeTube or Piped. If I search for youtube in Firefox, FreeTube automatically opens and shows me my feed. I like it, I use it, I can recommend it.

    eruchitanda ,
    @eruchitanda@lemmy.world avatar

    I would suggest Redirector.

    It lets you redirect any site you desire.
