Is there any solution available for controlling the volume without pressing the physical volume buttons ?

So I just bought a OnePlus 12 recently, I was used to controlling volume using the onehand operations goodlock module in my Samsung galaxy S23. I basically never had to press the volume buttons to control the volume unless absolutely necessary....

gunpachi OP ,

Thanks for sharing this, but I have found another way to control the volume. I'm using back taps on my phone to control the volume now. It's very convenient.

I have edited my post to include how I enabled this.

gunpachi ,

Bruh I just got the OnePlus 12... Welp..

Pixel pricing is horrendous in my region anyway.

gunpachi ,

I was surprised to see moondrop releasing an android device. If they can keep it affordable it will sell well.

Hah.. I used to search up an issue and see my own unanswered question on reddit as the first result. ಠ_ಠ

gunpachi ,

You can try Floorp browser (based on firefox) it hides the default tab bar and looks similar to vivaldi browser.

Also it has tree style tabs built in, you just have to enable it.

gunpachi ,

I believe there is an add on called "Tab stash" or something like that on firefox. It stashes tabs so that the use can restore them later.

It's been some time since I last used it. seeing your comment just reminded me of it. Thanks

gunpachi ,

Is it an upgrade over TST ?

The truth about linux having 15% market share in India.

I am from india. These numbers are inflated due to our population and government and health sector office pc using linux (ubuntu). These office pcs just require a chrome browser and all the work is done on the browser Nobody here cares what os they use in their office pc. I don't see anyone here switching to linux on their...

gunpachi ,

As someone from India, I agree with you.

I guess people just want to use what everyone else uses. Using something different than windows is instantly assumed to be very difficult.

I even showed my friends how they can play games on linux instead of having their laptops get stuck while using windows 11 , but they still won't even consider trying it.

Btw if you don't mind - do you play apex legends ? (Judging by your username)

gunpachi ,

Hehe, any kind of ricing can be taken too far.

Funnily enough I recently switched from WM's to DE (and KDE plasma at that) so that I don't spend entire days adjusting making pointless window border customization and autostart scripts that are already taken care of by a Desktop environment.

That said, I cant live without my keybinds so I've replicated the same on my Plasma setup.

(SOLVED) Linux Laptop Gets Stuck on Black Screen After Suspending, No Way to Use Unless Restarted With Power Button

Recently bought a new laptop that comes with an AMD Radeon gpu and installed OpenSuse Tumbleweed on it which I had installed on my previous laptop as well but never had issues with suspending and resuming. However, with the new laptop, I am unable to resume after suspending or closing the lid unless I force it to shut down by...

gunpachi ,

I have a similar issue but for me the black screen comes at random times when I open, close or move my windows or mouse.

I found a temporary fix for it by checking out the archwiki amdgpu page

But it still occurs , especially when I wake up my computer after suspending it.

gunpachi ,

Hi OP. Really awesome XFCE rice.

Would you mind sharing the xfce panel. Also what icons are those ?

gunpachi ,

Hey thanks !

FYI the panel configuration is in "$HOME/.config/ xfce4/panel/" if I remember correctly

gunpachi OP , (edited )

Hey thanks. It still doesn't have that google material U ish aesthetic that I'm looking for but that's okay.

I also found another theme named - Bazik

Windows 11 vs Ubuntu vs Fedora 39 vs Arch Linux - Speed Test! ( youtu.be )

Even though different Linux distros are often fairly close in terms of real-life performance and all of them have a clear advantage over Windows in many use cases, we can't reject the fact that Arch Linux has undoubtedly won the competition. And now I'm so glad to have another reason to proudly say "I use Arch btw"...

gunpachi ,

Where my openSUS at ?

gunpachi ,

Haha yeah, zypper is so damn slow. I thought about trying dnf in opensuse but didn't want to risk breaking my install.

gunpachi ,

I wish Samung Galaxy S23 , S22 series gets added to the supported devices list.

gunpachi ,

I have heard good things about Mabox linux, although it's based on manjaro.

Alternatively one could also try 'Arco linux' it's pretty good.

gunpachi ,

I hope they don't abandon the small phone size. Also they need to make it available in more regions.

gunpachi ,

Motorola has been making a lot of midrange devices lately with Mediatek chipsets and I owned one for 2 years. My particular device (edge 20 fuaion) sold pretty well but there was no ROM development at all.

So pick one with a Qualcomm chip and you will probably have a good time. I Think the recent Moto Edge 40 pro got some Custom rom development lately.

gunpachi ,

I hope someone releases a build of LineageOS or any AOSP based custom ROM for the s23 series.

Some of my favourites are Void Linux, Artix and Opensuse Tumbleweed

Void was my first non-systemd distro, and it was super snappy as well. Some packages may not available but overall I had a really great experience with it. It also offers a version with the musl C library. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Opensuse tumbleweed is an overall a great distro, it's one of my favourites. Also I noticed that many people have recommended it and that's for a good reason. It's installer isn't that user friendly but I would prefer it over Fedora's installer any day. ( I haven't tried the last 3 iterations of Fedora, so it might have changed now )

Artix is well... arch with different init systems. Nothing too crazy. Its what I have been daily driving for the past year or so.

gunpachi ,

I feel like I see the same kind of post everyday.

  • Kakoune should also be added under Text editors.

  • Yazi is a good terminal based file manager

  • nnn is another file manager

  • rtorrent for a terminal based torrent client

  • nushell - a different kind of shell.

  • starship prompt

  • weechat for IRC

I was looking for a small phone and the zenfone 10 and s23 base variant were my picks, they ticked almost all the boxes. I ended up getting the s23 because of better software support and the availability issues with the zenfone 10 in my region.

I just wish the s23 had better custom rom support from the community and a sd card slot.

gunpachi ,

I played Hades on gamepass and I immediately knew that I had to buy it on steam.

Btw did you manage to get to the final boss ?

gunpachi ,

I just resumed playing Yakuza 7 after a few months of not playing anything. It's a cool game but requires some levelling grinding apparently.

In previous Yakuza games I would just proceed to boss fights as a underlevelled character sometimes, but in Yakuza 7 it doesn't cut it.

gunpachi ,

Last I checked it takes about 360 hours to get permission to unlock the bootloader on a Xiaomi device. Also you have to have your sim card in the phone while requesting the unlock.

gunpachi OP ,

Yup, looks like it’s not my cup of tea. I just bought it to play with my friends. I guess I’ll refund it and get something else.

gunpachi OP ,

Didn’t know about this one. Maybe i’ll find the man in the chair role enjoyable. Will check it out before I decide to refund the game.

gunpachi ,

I agree. We could ride the threads train and use it to our advantage. If it ever gets problematic, instances can just defederate at that point.

gunpachi ,

I have never played Destiny. Just out of curiosity, is it that bad ?

Edit : just read this comment and now I kinda get the idea.

gunpachi ,

I’m already using shelter to achieve a similar result.

gunpachi ,

I guess the same thing is happened with samsung after the s10 series. No new roms for the newer ones apart from 1 or 2 oneui based roms.

gunpachi ,

Some banking or payment apps can detect root and won’t let you use them.

When I used to run Custom ROMs I just used magisk to hide the root and these apps would work fine afterwards.

gunpachi ,

I still remember the good old days when there was no waiting time.

gunpachi ,

I had a similar experience with the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. It was a budget phone but it had tons of custom roms and it lasted a good 4 years for me. I had to change phones because it broke during a motorcycle accident.

gunpachi ,

Assuming that you are dualbooting from a single storage device - If you have some money to spare go and buy a second ssd. Keeping both OSes in separate storage devices will result in far lesser chances of screwing up.

gunpachi ,

Is it still maintained ? I’d probably go with FreeBSD if I’m switching to BSD at all. It has ZFS out of the box and has support for nvidia’s non opensource driver. I have used it as a desktop OS for a good 3 months, it was pretty good (even though I couldn’t game on it)

gunpachi ,

That would be one helluva evil plan.

gunpachi ,

I feel the same way. Unfortunately friends and family just doesn’t use anything other than Whatsapp. I’ve tried moving some of them to signal but they were back on WhatsApp within a week or two.

gunpachi ,

It just works. Whenever anyone I know tells me they are going to install ubuntu or try out linux for the first time - I just tell them to install linux mint and they’ve had no complaints so far.

(Even though I only use mint as a fallback distro, I really appreciate it being there)
