Cool!

For the branding couldn't they just do k-9 by Thunderbird or something similar?

@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

The Debian maintainer is probably a volunteer. Can we not troll people who make Debian and Foss possible?

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

True, but let them settle it without turning a few thousand people against one person.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

AOSP has a lot of proprietary software behind the scenes

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Solid but occasionally buggy

COSMIC looks cool

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

It shouldn't have touched anything

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

I once had a installer crash and wipe my drive in the process.

@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Pop Shop eats all resources. Try going to system monitor and killing it.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

It was some new distro that I forgot everything else about. It was very new so it problems were to be expected. I just didn't expect it to write to disk.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

That was many years ago back when Linux was the new kid on the block

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

It wasn't Pop OS

Linux Mint although X may not work with touch screens.

The other option is Fedora Workstation but you will need to update to the latest release every 6 months as it ships brand new packages.

Mac for GUI

I'm sorry

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Or how about no

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

I would stay away from Fedora based anything if you want stability. Linux Mint is is as flexible as you make it.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

It doesn't have as great of support as cinnamon

There is quite a lot of deviation with lumber these days. If you need something the right size go for a higher quality and then measure them until you find the one you are looking for.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

There is a lot of manufacturing deviation with lumber. If you are that picky maybe you could try talking to one of the associates. They tend to know the best places to look and they may even help you measure.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Good lumber these days is becoming hard to find. I think it is mostly due to the lumber companies trying to pump out a ton of lumber to meet demand.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Not everyone

Some people are gods when it comes to metal math

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Go to Home depot and measure

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Maybe

I just know quality is down and price is up

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Part of that is that you need to work hard to find good people who do good work.

The other issue is that all the skilled works are either old or dead. The young guys aren't the same type.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

That's not a design goal of Plasma. They add features instead of fixing the existing ones. Its a little better now but KDE is just not what I want a computer to be.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Gnome has been rock solid for me and I've only had a handful of issues in over 5 years on Fedora.

Gnome focuses on reliability while KDE focuses on innovation

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Its not as bad as some people make it

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

If most of the features you use are gnome extensions you shouldn't be using gnome. There are plenty of other desktops that would meet your needs better.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Gnome does break extensions from time to time. They extension developers just fix it.

Gnome is not a good fit for everyone. KDE is good for people who want high levels of customization and Xfce4 is good for people who want a simple configurable desktop.

There is also gnome soft forks like Cinnamon that try to create a Win 7 feel. My point is Gnome is good for me and others but it doesn't work for everyone. To say it is the only option is wrong.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Gnome 43 is old at this point. That's why nothing breaks.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

It is way to overwhelming for me personally. I need something that isn't distracting.

If Xfce gets good Wayland support maybe I'll try it for fun at some point.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Try Linux Mint Cinnamon

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Everything is an option or extension. I just want a basic system.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

The only time extensions break is when the release is very new or when an extension is not maintained

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

But them all the setting a buried under tons of options I'll never use. On gnome the settings menu is nice and clean.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

If anyone is circle jerking it is you. KDE and gnome fit two different use cases.

(This comment is was made to be ironic)

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Debian likely has to old of a kernel. Maybe you could try installing a more recent version from backports or switching to Fedora.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

SMB1 is really insecure so there might be a silver lining to all this.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Could you use a network share?

For distros I would go with Linux Mint

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Could you just mount google drive?

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

It is natively supported in most desktops

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

XFS is good but dated

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Be really careful with winbtrfs. It will corrupt your data and cause crashes. Also I feel bad for the dev as Windows users are very demanding

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Ext4 on hard drives? Btrfs would be better for both.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Until you pull the power at the wrong time. Its better to use Btrfs as others have said.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

Just a heads up if your SSD has issues or you lose power your data is gone
