Playstation gets it. I haven't been disappointed by a Playstation published game yet (Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted, God of War, etc.), unlike Ubisoft games which are abysmal.

What your point?

Decision of Next Os

I was Nobara user, then I am using Fedora right now. I want to use things like Hyprland etc. and ya know, Its damn cool to say I am using arch btw. So I've decided to use Arch Linux. But everyone says its always breaking and gives problems. That's because of users, not OS.. right? I love to deal with problems but I don't want to...

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

I love to deal with problems but I don’t want to waste my time.

Then Arch is not for you. The distro requires you to always be informed of the latest news regarding Arch before upgrading so you'll probably have to admin your system.

If you're not ready to do that then you should probably stay with Fedora.

My suggestion: run arch in a virtual machine and get familiar with it before installing it.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

OP said he didn't want to waste his time. Arch is not like Ubuntu. It requires you to RTFM (and Arch documentation is excellent) and know what you are doing and be willing to learn from your mistakes. That takes time and dedication. I went with what OP said.

In my opinion, it depends. If a distro has BTRFS configured to automatically take a snapshot when upgrading (like OpenSuse Tumbleweed), then BTRFS.

If not, for a beginner, ext4 + timeshift to take snapshots of your system in case an upgrade goes wrong will be fine.

Mereo , (edited )
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

I disagree. My partition is ext4, but Timeshift saved my ass when an upgrade went wrong. I just had to restore the system from a previous snapshot taken before the upgrade.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

Are you talking about ext4 or BTRFS?

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

Wait? What?! Android didn't support this basic feature? iPhone did for quite some time now...

This is what happens on my phone when I update apps at the same time:

They will need to stay the course and not be tempted with huge Microsoft savings Microsoft will give them just like what happened with Munich: https://www.zdnet.com/article/linux-not-windows-why-munich-is-shifting-back-from-microsoft-to-open-source-again/

It is nice to be a patient gamer. I recently bought Cyberpunk and I'm enjoying it. I will get Dragon Dogma's 2 when it comes out of beta.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

For NVIDIA users, that's the right answer. For AMD users, it's already ready. No problems here (6700xt)

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

Which DE are you using? I'm using KDE.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

Yup. It is an official proof that the package wasn't delivered.

To me, instances are like countries. c/[email protected] is not the same as c/[email protected] because lemmy.ml culture and policies are different from lemmy.world. In this case, go to c/[email protected].

It's a slippery slope. Money talks. They are accountable to their shareholders. So when they saw that people were paying for them, they started to monetise more and more.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

I don't know why people are down voting you just because they don't like the government. The FTC legally fought this every step of the way: https://www.ftc.gov/legal-library/browse/cases-proceedings/2210077-microsoftactivision-blizzard-matter

I'm not new to Lemmy. I was just venting my frustrating against this attitude.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

It's looks nice. I think you will enjoy KDE, we don't have to worry about extensions compatibility when upgrading to a new version of Gnome.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

I guess it's a good investment to have peace of mind! /s

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

And this is where pirating comes into play. For example, I bought Fifa 23 but because of the bundled anti-cheat giving me a lot of problems, I downloaded the cracked version.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

It is not. It is a demo. The company demonstrates the game to you. You're free to play it as long as you want so that you can make an informed decision afterwards.

I had numerous problems with Wayland when I had an NVIDIA video card. Since I switched to an AMD video card, it has been a blissful experience. Wayland now works perfectly.

Misleading Title!!!

In an interview with Norges Bank Investment Management, the Sony CEO talked about where he sees the future of gaming for PlayStation going in both the short and near term.

“It will be ubiquitous,” Yoshida said. “Wherever there is computing, users will be able to play their favorite games seamlessly. Why PlayStation will remain our core product [is] we will expand our gaming experiences to PC, mobile, and cloud.”

I finally nuked windows

I have been daily driving a dual booted laptop for the past two years. After a year of distro hopping I settled with fedora + kde and never looked back. I really liked the auto nvidia driver config and it made everything so pleasant to work. Since the last 8 or 9 months I decided to do gaming using bottles and proton ge. I...

I'm curious, how did it nuke your bios?

Mereo ,

I currently use Akregator. Which one do you prefer?

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

No, OpenSuse is primarily a KDE distro. But when you install OpenSuse Tumbleweed, you can choose from many DEs (Gnome, KDE, XFCE, etc.).

Good! That means less people drinking sugar!

It reminds me of when Flash was an exciting technology and websites were made in Flash. Very painful.

PSA - Lemmy dropped 0.19, your instance may have some downtime

Please, before posting, we’ve seen a lot of these post saying X instance is down right now, or “is X instance down?”. The answer is probably, but it’s probably because Lemmy v0.19 dropped and it includes some downtime, upwards of an hour for all the migrations to finish....

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

Also, check if your instance has a Status page and bookmark it.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

Read? Lemmy is Reddit 2.0. Unfortunately, the majority don’t read articles.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

That is the beauty of the Fediverse. If you don’t like how an instance is run, you can easily switch to another instance in Lemmy 0.19. We need to think of Lemmy instances as countries with their own laws, culture, and policies. So in my opinion, if you don’t like how an instance is run, you can easily switch to another instance.

Basically, the game is telling players to stop wasting their time.

@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

Because of Valve, Linux is finally my main OS. I’m a PC gamer and it was a pain in the ass to dual-boot between Windows and Linux.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

Indeed. I always read in forums people asking if NMS is worth playing now. Imagine if it had a great launch from the beginning. It would’ve been much more successful and wouldn’t have a bad reputation like it does know.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

Being the lowest rates means nothing. As long as people keep buying and ordering the game, they will keep on releasing Shit games. Money talks in business.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

That’s a very extreme view, my friend. A lot of Youtubers come up with good products. For example, LevelOneTechs has come up with a pretty good KVM that a lot of mainstream companies haven’t been able to perfect. So I enjoy it when Youtubers advertise their merch.

The story behind Senerenity OS is quite amazing:

It was October 2018 and I had just completed a 3-month rehab program at a state addiction clinic in Sweden. I was unemployed, staying with family, and had basically nothing going on.

With no drugs or other vices to pass the time, the days seemed impossibly long. I struggled to find activities to fill them. I enrolled in school for a while, but it wasn’t for me this time either. Eventually I turned to programming, since it’s always been my big interest in life.

Until that point, my career had been focused on web browsers (WebKit at Apple & Nokia). However, I had always been interested in low-level things so I began tinkering with some of that. I wrote a little ELF executable parser… And an Ext2 filesystem browser… And a little GUI framework with an event loop…

Out of this tinkering, an operating system began to take shape. I chose the name SerenityOS because I wanted to always remember the Serenity Prayer. I was quite worried about my future at the time, and I figured that this name would help me stay on the good path.

My general idea was to build my own dream system for daily use. It would be a combination of my two favorite computing paradigms: the 1990s GUI and the no-nonsense command-line of late-2000s Unix.

But the problem is the general public. People who have it enabled won’t be able to visit his website.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

Well, you vote with your wallet. This is what happens when gamers pre-order incomplete games and scream about the state of the game on social media: you get crap products like this.

Money is the only thing that appeals to companies. If people would just vote with their wallets, we wouldn’t have this situation.

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

And this:

and it probably never will support anything other than AT-harddisks

An update patch that introduced the most amazing feature: monetization!

[Rant] I swear to fucking god. Windows is harder to use than Linux. Have any of you ever USED Windows lately? Holy fuck.

I’m helping a family member build a pc. He wanted to use Windows because “Linux can’t play games” despite me having a perfectly good gaming laptop running Linux that runs all my games, even graphically intensive ones....

Mereo ,
@Mereo@lemmy.ca avatar

Me neither. Linux is my main Operating System but... We can't generalize one Windows experience just like we can't generalize one Linux experience.
